Students enrolled in this course are normally juniors who have, at least, completed BIOL 2285 (Research Methods) and BIOL 3216 (Genetics). Students should be familiar with Microsoft Office Word and Excel as well as basics of statistics.
Laboratory attendance is required. More than two unexcused absences may result in exclusion (WF) from the course. An excused absence is one approved IN ADVANCE by the instructor or caused by a documented incapacitation of the student.
Any student with special learning requirements must contact the University Special Needs Office to have these needs documented and a modified learning plan approved. This must be done within the first week of the semester.
Lectures are provided to assist you to prepare for examinations as well as for field and laboratory experiences. Although lecture attendance records will be maintained, students making satisfactory progress in the course will not be subject to exclusion for excessive absences; however, a student with a failing average or falling behind in the submission of assignments may be excluded (WF) if absent from five or more scheduled lectures. Lectures meet from 10:00 - 11:30 AM in Stanley Hall 207. One laboratory meets on Mondays from 1:00 - 5:00 PM, and the second laboratory section meets on Thursday from 1:00 - 5:00 PM. Laboratories meet in LeNoir 358, LeNoir 126, and in the field. Laboratory attendance is mandatory. There are no unexcused absences, and missing more than two labs usually will result in exclusion.
